Bellstar Nears Construction Phase of Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa

Osoyoos, BC & Calgary, AB August 14, 2004 -- Bellstar Hotels & Resorts Ltd., one of Western Canada's leading resort companies, announces that it will begin construction this fall of Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa, a unique year-round destination resort in British Columbia's south Okanagan.

"It is very rewarding to reach this milestone in our vision for Spirit Ridge," says Ed Romanowski, president and CEO of Calgary-based Bellstar. "We 've been working on this project for more than two years. The result is a resort unlike anything else in the area."

Spirit Ridge will offer numerous firsts for resort developments in the Osoyoos area. Each of Spirit Ridge's luxurious 94 villas and suites will feature a full kitchen, dining area, living room with fireplace, a balcony, as well as spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. The deluxe condo-style accommodations will also offer unparalleled attractions and facilities for the region, including a full spa, expansive year-round outdoor pools, a restaurant, and banquet and meeting rooms. Guests can enjoy the new Sonora Dunes Golf Course, Nk'Mip Cellars, the Desert & Heritage Centre, and Lake Osoyoos, all within an easy stroll from the resort's residences.

A key partner in this project is the Osoyoos Indian Band Development Corporation. Its vision is to create a sustainable tourism legacy that will preserve the band's rich cultural heritage and promote the diversity and beauty of the region's natural resources. Benefits will be immediate and lasting because the resort's development will bring increased tourism and employment growth. The development corporation is currently involved with Nk'Mip Cellars (winner of Tourism British Columbia's "Thinking Outside the Box" award), the Nk'Mip Desert & Heritage Centre and the Nk'Mip Campground & RV Park, on the shores of Lake Osoyoos.

The public will be able to experience Spirit Ridge in two ways: by investing in an individual villa or suite - both are currently available for sale - or by staying as a guest at the resort when it opens in early 2005.

"Spirit Ridge offers the opportunity to fulfill the dream of owning a reasonably-priced recreation property which encompasses a warm climate, a lake, golf, family activities and that offers that feeling of getting away from it all," says Romanowski. "Osoyoos is a rare destination in that it offers all of these elements."

"Most cottage owners only use their vacation properties for a fraction of a year," says Romanowski. "Quarter ownership programs such as the one at Spirit Ridge allow people to buy what they need. By being a part of a resort, they can also offset some of their ownership costs by renting out their resort residence."

The first four villa buildings in the development - totalling 84 quarter ownership fractions - are sold out. Desert Suites and Vineyard Villa suites are now available for purchase.
